MIT Gwendolyn Johnson-Jamerson
Gwendolyn Johnson-Jamerson was raised in the small town of Oxford, North Carolina to Winfield and Elsie Lester. The 6th child of 10 children, she attended schools in Granville County and graduated from South Granville High School in Creedmoor NC in 1976.
At the tender age of 15, her parents bought a home across the street from a church. It was here that Gwen gave her life to Christ and her life has never been the same. Gwen eagerly joined the choir and began singing her heart out, she felt like she couldn’t get enough of attending church.
It was here that Gwen’s foundation and God’s plan began in her life under the leadership of Rev. Clinton Winston at Bible Way Holiness Church in Oxford North Carolina. Gwen fell in love with Sunday School and singing during this time. It was also here that she was filled with the Holy Ghost. Gwen and 2 of her sisters formed a gospel group and would be invited to sing at various places. As she grew in his grace,
Gwen loved the church, the fellowship of the saints, and being in God’s presence.
Married at 18 to the late Joseph Johnson, and 2 children were born from this union. Gwen left her childhood church and became a member of the Christian Faith Center under the leadership and guidance of the late Rev. Mack Timberlake Jr. Her faith continued to grow and her love for Christ deepened. Gwen completed leadership training classes and served in the capacity of deaconess.
Years later, Gwen joined New Jerusalem Freewill Baptist Church where Rev. Bennie Griffin was the Pastor. It was here that she felt that the Lord was calling her, and as many of us do, she continued running from her calling feeling that she was not good enough or ready and life kept getting in the way, so she kept pulling away from the call.
In 2002, She met and married her husband, Scottie Jamerson. He wanted them to find a church as a couple. In 2008, they became members of Redeeming Love Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Rev. Dr. TK Ashley. At RLMBC, She has served on the choir and youth choir and with the Deaconess ministry. The calling that was on her life started to intensify during Covid. God started to use her as an intercessor. Gwen and her sisters started a prayer line called Sister’s Circle, where they prayed every Friday night together. God was preparing her.
In 2023 Gwen’s desire to do more for God continued to grow with the desire to serve others. The Lord laid on her heart the ministry of help to those seniors who were dealing with illness and didn’t have family near. This labor of love pushed her into the desire to do Chaplaincy and acknowledge that God had something planned for her. She shared this with Rev. Dr. Mark T. Gibson in August of 2023, who gave her direction and introduced her to Matthew McFarland who was already a Chaplain. Gwen started a Chaplaincy internship in September of 2023, completing her first CPE unit in May of 2023.
Gwen desires to serve him and continue to grow. “Her favorite song is “I’m still holding on, to his hand.” She says, “Because That’s my testimony.” I honor God for who he is in my life, for I know without a doubt that he has brought me through many dangers seen and unseen. All that I am and ever hope to be I owe it all to him. To God be the Glory.”
Her favorite Bible verse Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is the light of my salvation, whom shall, I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life of whom shall I be afraid.
