MIT Janice P. Hawkins
A North Carolina native, Janice Hawkins is a minister, teacher, and writer. The daughter of the late Raymond and Annie Powers, she gave her life to the Lord at an early age and serves others with great joy. She is grateful for the privilege to share the message of God’s love in her local church and community.
Currently, under the leadership of Pastor Mark T. Gibson, she uses her gifts and talents in service as a member of Redeeming Love Missionary Baptist Church in Raleigh, N.C., serving as Sunday School Superintendent, and Liaison for the following ministries:
Christian Education; Drama Ministries; Dance Ministry; Children’s Church; AWANA, and Vacation Bible School.
She also serves as Lead for the Adopt-A-District Program, which provides support to the SE District Police Department. This program aims to create an environment of teamwork; demote dehumanization (police and community); promote positive strong relationships both publicly and within the community; and inspire fellowship.
Prior to joining the Redeeming Love Missionary Baptist Church, Janice also served in as a Sunday School Teacher, Marketplace Bible Study Teacher, Youth Advisor, Gospel Choir Chaplain, and Women’s Ministry Chaplain, and church administrator.
Janice pursued post-secondary education with studies in English at Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C. and later received her Paralegal Degree from Kaplan College in Chicago, Illinois. Dedicated to the study of The Word, she has completed courses on New Testament Studies at the Distance Education Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary, including New Testament Survey in Jacksonville, Texas. She is also a recipient of the Christian Leaders Institute Christian Leaders Award in Spring Lake, Michigan. The art of learning is a continuous project for Janice.
Janice is the widow of the late Joseph Hawkins, and a mother to 2 adult children, Melanie Hawkins, and Monique Davis. She is also the spiritual mother to Denise Lytle. She also loves her sister and cheerleader, Clara Powers.
Following her husband’s passing in 2019, she released her first book, “Which Road Will We Take”. The book examines how God gives us the right to live life and to have it more abundantly; however, the success we achieve in life really begins when we are sure of the paths God has willed for us to pursue.
In 2024, Janice became a contributing author in the compilation book: Suffering While Serving; Dr. Mark T. Gibson, Visionary.
This #1 Best Seller (2024) is a collection of journeys are actual stories from a group of distinguished pastors, ministers, and ministry leaders who are transparent about suffering while leading in the church. The book is designed to help others who are suffering in silence and provides keen insights and coping strategies to find a healthy balance and perspective on how to be a successful leader.
